When John Rose gave his wife Judith a loom for her birthday in 1974, he had no idea it would be the best investment he ever made.  At first, Judith wove pillows and placemats.  They started to sell wholesale at a few craft fairs across the country.  By 1978, they realized that they had a viable business and Textillery Weavers was formed.

Slowly, the business grew as the Rose's developed a reputation for both creativity in their designs, diversity in their materials and dependability in their business practices.  As the demand for woven home furnishings grew, throws went from being an oddity to being a category.  Textillery not only grew with this trend; they helped create the explosive demand for chenille throws.  By 1993, Textillery Weavers was widely regarded as the leading maker of handmade throws in the United States.  The company began to grow at a phenomenal pace, selling as much as they could weave and adding new looms to their studio.

Textillery Weavers now has 28 looms operating.  Because the owners of the company are also the designers and technical supervisors, they are weavers in every sense of the word...and not just of throws.  Textillery is a versatile home furnishings resource weaving upholstery fabric, rugs, scarves, tablerunners, blankets-even test fabric for stereo speakers!  All this is done not only because it is profitable, but because it provides a constant technological and design challenge for the Roses and their staff.  In December of 1998, Textillery Weavers moved into a brand new 37,000 square foot, state of the art facility.  No longer a studio, Textillery can now be considered a textile mill - one of the few in the world specializing in handwoven products.

Over the years, the company has been honored with a number of prestigious awards including the 1996 ARTY Award from the Accessories Resource Team (ART) and the 1996/97 Small Business of the Year, awarded by the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.  More recently the company was elected to the Indiana Growth 100, an award sponsored by a distinguished group of Indiana's top companies, in conjunction with Indiana University's School of Business.  In 1999 Textillery was the Winner of an American Furniture Award sponsored by HOME magazine for their jacquard collection.  In 2000, Textillery received the Accessory Manufacturer of the year award from the Accessories Resource Team.  In August of 2004, Textillery was honored by being one of the 10 original Accent on Design exhibitors with continual attendance for the past 20 years in the Accent on Design section of the New York Gift Show.
